Fort Hood Residential Development Project

Fort Hood Residential Development Project

Last August, Purple Fence received what they thought was a small fencing job—586 feet. Turns out, it was 586 homes. That moment kicked off what would become a multi-fence seven-figure government contract for a residential development at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, serving  active-duty soldiers and their families.

Joseph Brennan at Purple Fence stated it was our first time handling a commercial project of this scale, and after winning the bid, we ran into a material pricing issue, but with quick thinking and hard work from Kris Stuchly at Stephens Pipe & Steel the correct panels and gate hardware were approved, and we signed the contract in January. By March, we were installing posts, and as of now, we’re about 25% complete.

Joseph added, I must give major credit to Stevens Pipe & Steel. Their customer service has been unmatched. I called Kris with a $50,000 material request on just two days’ notice, and they made it happen. They’ve stored materials at their yard, delivered to our site, and even offloaded for us—at their own expense. Their responsiveness and problem-solving have made them our go-to supplier for future commercial and government projects.

D&D Technologies really came through with the LokkLatch Regular gate latch with the external access kit that is lockable from both sides of the gate and will work with the rackable wrought iron gates that Purple Fence is fabricating on-site. D&D also has the perfect gate hinge, the TruClose self-closing gate hinge with alignment legs for added stability that have performed flawlessly. Joseph added, the gate hardware installation has been a breeze.

"My crew can install these in under 10 minutes, and even months later, the gates look new and are still latching perfectly and self-closing as they should. The fact that D&D products come sealed in individual plastic bags is a small detail that makes a big difference, especially when materials can sit on-site exposed to the elements over time."

D&D Technologies and Stevens Pipe & Steel have proven they can manage the complexity, scale, and urgency of a project like Fort Hood Residential Housing. Kris from Stevens Pipe & Steel stated D&D responds quickly to our requests and makes the ordering process seamless. I believe D&D manufactures the most reliable gate hardware in the industry.

Joseph concluded, the reliability aspect cannot be hammered home enough.

Knowing that a project this size won’t have gate issues gives me peace of mind. We’re putting our name—Purple Fence—and I’m personally putting my name on this work. Having it backed by a quality product helps me sleep at night.

Also, what makes this project so meaningful is its impact. These homes were built and occupied, but the families had no fences. Now, we drive by and see kids playing, dogs in yards, and families enjoying their space. It’s a tangible way to give back to those serving our country—and for me personally, it’s a nod to my grandfather, a Colonel in the Green Berets who served with distinction. Being able to provide security for so many military families is a small way I can honor his legacy.
