FAQ's

I want to replace my old MagnaLatch® Series 2 to the newer Series 3 Top Pull latch.  Do the holes for the old latch line up with the new latch?
Unfortunately, the holes of the new MagnaLatch Series 3 Top Pull latch will not line up with the old MagnaLatch Series 2 Top Pull latch, but it’s not usually a problem to drill new holes around the existing ones.

If my gate weighs more than the weight rating for a pair of hinges, can I add additional hinges to increase strength?
We only recommend using two hinges per gate as this is how we test them in our facilities. Adding more than two hinges can also lead to “hinge binding” if alignment is compromisedwhich can impair/prevent gate closure.  Please note we have a wide variety of hinges intended for gates that weigh as little as 44 lbs (20kg) and as heavy as 1,500 lbs (680kg).  Our warranty covers 2 hinges per gate. Installing more than 2 hinges will void the warranty.

I have installed my brand new LokkLatch® MAGNETIC, but it will not unlock.  Did I install it incorrectly?
Once installed, the final step will be to turn the key to the unlocked position until it stops.  You should feel a slight resistance and hear a “click”/ “pop” to indicate locked or unlocked. You may find a new latch can sometimes have a high resistance to initially overcoming the “click” point.  At that point you may need to apply more pressure to the key so that it continues to turn and “pop” open to the unlocked position.  This only has to be done the first time the lock is used. If it still does not “pop” then it is an indication that the joining push rod is cut slightly too long.

How can I prevent my gate lock from freezing in the winter?
Prior to the winter season, you should make sure all drain holes all clear and adjust the latch to ensure it is in proper alignment. Drain holes are generally located at the bottom of the latch and adjustment information can be found in the installation instructions on our website.

Can I paint any of your polymer products?
No, our polymer products cannot be painted. If you need products that you can paint to match the finish of your existing gate, we recommend using any our SureClose®, or ShutIt™ products. All SureClose® and BadAss hinges can be painted.

How can I obtain duplicate keys in quantities of three or more?
You can only have duplicate keys made through your local locksmith. Please note that you must tell them which key blank to use in order to have duplicates made. If your key has a five digit number, then it is a LF18 key blank. If your key has a 6 digit number or no number at all, then it is a KW5 key blank.

Which products are ADA compliant?
The range of SureClose® Hinges are the only ADA compliant products that we have available.

Who do I contact to rekey my latch key to my front door key?
Please contact your local Locksmith.

My gate is no longer self-closing and it has TruClose® hinges. How can I increase the tension on my hinges in order to have my gate working again?
First take a Phillips-head screwdriver and remove the Phillips-head screw at the top of the hinge. Next, remove the dust cap on the top of the hinge. Please note if you have a newer version hinge without a cap, you can disregard the previous information and read the following steps. Insert a ¼” Flat-head screwdriver into the slotted adjustment dial. Depress as far as possible and then turn the screwdriver a ¼ turn counterclockwise to increase tension.
Allow the adjustment dial to rise back up into the new position. You have now increased the tension by +1 setting. You can do this several times to each hinge but please make sure you do it equally. For example, if you increase the tension on the top hinge by +3 setting, then you should also increase the tension on the bottom hinge by a +3 setting.

Where do I find my MagnaLatch® Serial Number for the Warranty Registration Form?
The serial number is located on the back of the latch body. If the MagnaLatch® has already been installed, then you will not be able to see the serial number. Please note the serial number is not a mandatory field on the warranty registration form and therefore you can leave this section blank. Just be sure to input your registration number which can be found on the green registration card.

Do your hinges come with fasteners?
Some our hinges do not come with fasteners. Check with you local distributor  or D&D customer service. Bags of 100 screws are available for purchase if required.

Is the Gate Weight rated per pair of hinges or per hinge?
