Fencing Her Way – Stacey Foley

The fencing and gate hardware industry has traditionally been male-dominated, but that hasn’t stopped determined, skilled, and passionate women from making their mark. At D&D Technologies, we’re proud to celebrate these trailblazers through our "Fencing Her Way" series, which highlights the women shaping the future of fencing, leading businesses, and bringing fresh perspectives to the industry.

In this third instalment, we’re thrilled to feature Stacey Foley, owner and operator of P. Saylor Fence & Charlotte Fence. Stacey’s journey into the fencing world started in an unexpected place—real estate and finance. She and her husband, Tim, were both in different industries when they saw an opportunity to build something of their own. With determination and a belief that "if they can do it, so can we," they launched their fencing business from their home, figuring things out along the way.

Today, Stacey leads a thriving company that continues to grow and innovate.

1. The fencing and gate hardware industry has traditionally been male-dominated. Can you share your journey of entering this field and what inspired you to pursue a career in it?

My husband was a financial advisor, and I was a Real Estate Agent.  My husband, Tim, was not happy and decided to look for other opportunities. We were introduced to a couple that ran a fence company out of their house.  We thought, "If they can do it, so can we"!  And we did!  We started working from our home and figuring it out along the way!!

2. Women bring unique perspectives and strengths to every industry. In what ways do you think women contribute to innovation, customer relationships, or business growth in the fencing industry?

I have many women on my team, and they bring a totally different perspective to the table. They tend to be less severe but more thoughtful in their work. The women on my team show up every day, whether they are moms, single moms, or even young and partying!! They strive to find a balance that is mandatory for ALL women!! Women are more process-oriented!

3. Have you faced any specific challenges or biases as a woman in the fencing and gate hardware industry? How did you navigate those obstacles, and what advice would you give other women aspiring to enter this field?

I am the only woman at the table at my high-level meetings. I enjoy the challenge and bring a positive and fun vibe to these situations. Women should not be afraid to ask questions! The only way I have been successful in this journey is to establish positive relationships with my vendors!

4.- How do you see the role of women evolving in the fencing industry? What opportunities exist for more women to get involved, and how can the industry become more inclusive?

I see more and more women at events and on social media, which is awesome. The more the industry grows, the more opportunities for women.

5.- What advice would you give young women or professionals considering a career in the gate hardware and fencing industry? Have any key skills, mindsets, or networks helped you succeed?

I love the fence business, as do most women who work for me! We all joke about it, but for some reason, it has greatly impacted our lives, and we are proud to be part of a growing industry. I would tell women not to be afraid! Put on your jeans and boots and get out there! You will meet very down-to-earth and hardworking people, and it will be a fun journey!

Stay tuned for more inspiring stories throughout the month as we continue our “Fencing Her Way” series!
